The Palau de la Música Catalana, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and built between 1905 and 1908, has always been home to the Orfeó Català choral society. Domènech's architectural style is one of great quality and originality. The exterior presents both sculptural elements alluding to the world of music and baroque-Modernista architectural features. Inside the hall, the architect brilliantly combined various construction materials with ceramic and glass. In 1971, the Palau de la Música Catalana was officially recognized as a national monument in Spain, and in 1987 the building was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
