The building was conceived as a venue for high-level international political conferences such as United Nations meetings. This meant a high-value architectural project, top-of-the-line finishings, and state-of-the-art conference technologies. The fact that Putrajaya is a thriving city in a highly important diplomatic district led to its selection as the location for the building. The first event to be held at the new conference centre was the 10th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference.
