The creation of the National Theatre of Catalonia, a significant milestone in Barcelona's cultural development, was a response to the need to decentralize major cultural facilities in order to vitalize the city’s periphery. The new theatre is also aimed at consolidating a quality theatre programme, at both the national and international level, at the service of public theatre.
