Case Study

From 2018 until the beginning of 2021, Latvia is celebrating the 100th anniversary since the proclamation of independence. As part of this celebration, the Baltic city of Ventspils has inaugurated a new Music School and Concert Hall designed by Haas Cook Zemmrich STUDIO2050.

Located on the main public square, which has always been an important venue within the city, the Music School is surrounded by public gardens, water features and recently installed sculptures. This urban landscape frames the music school enriching the overall vision of the building.

The music school offers a wide range of performance spaces; a classical concert hall with capacity of up to 600 seats, a small “black-box” theatre, a music library and an outdoor stage and amphitheatre. The whole complex offers the citizens of Ventspils a place fully dedicated to enjoy their most deeply rooted cultural traditions related to music.

The classical concert hall has been equipped with completely customized Figueras seats, on the basis of the model Flex 6035, one of the most elegant and compact seat designed by Figueras. The concert hall required a seat with an optimal acoustic response, for this reason, Figueras worked closely with Müller-BBM in order to comply with the necessary acoustic parameters by means of several modifications of the original seat.

Another eye-catching detail of this bespoke seat is the distinctive fabric that has been used to upholster them. This bespoke fabric, which is the result of a collaboration between hascookzemmrich STUDIO2050 and Rohi Stoffe GmbH, has been designed with a great colour range that provides a contrast with the wooden parts of the seat itself and timbers of the building interiors.
